However, when examining the data at a state level, there are clear differences in homicide rates between the safest and most dangerous states, as well as differences in education levels.
A recent study published in the Journal of Criminal Justice found a strong negative correlation between education levels and homicide rates in the United States. The study, which analyzed data from all 50 states between 1990 and 2015, found that states with higher education levels tended to have lower homicide rates.
The study’s findings were particularly evident when examining the top 10 safest and top 10 most dangerous states to live in. The top 10 safest states had an average homicide rate of 1.2 per 100,000 people and an average educational attainment rate of 31.9%.
